Unique, white bisque bud vase with matte exterior & glazed interior. The vase has not only a stylized chicken shape (hence the name POLLO - Spanish for chicken), but due to its curved base it also moves like one. Despite the curved base, it stands still in a balanced position, however, when prompted it will rock around for about 60 seconds. Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985) was an exceptionally prolific & versatile Finnish artist who rose to world fame in the early 1950s. He mastered almost any material (silver, ceramics & glass to graphic art) & designed both everyday objects & unique works of art. Wirkkala drew inspiration from the nature of Lapland, being inspired, especially in his glass objects, by the forms of snow & melting ice. He has won a large number of awards, including three gold medals at the Triennale in Milan in 1951, followed by another three in 1954. I will post your item within 1 working day after payment.
