Last print available - this has been so popular I have only one artist’s proof remaining. Fawley Power Station has been a significant feature of the Solent landscape for nearly 60 years. To celebrate its fine brutalist architecture I have created a series of prints taking different views & using different printing techniques. This print is the fifth in the series. This print was selected for the International Exhibition at T Pawb, the regional arts centre in Wrexham, North Wales in December 2021. This view of Fawley Power Station is perhaps one it’s most recognisable; a view from the lifting bridge which crosses the small dock, looking north-west towards the chimney with the iconic concrete clad circular control room in the foreground. I wanted to create a bold image with strong colours like the simple graphics used in old tourism & Transport for London posters. I had attended a talk by the artist printmaker Paul Catherall in 2019 who produces very striking prints of iconic buildings in London. His technique of simplifying the building form, using bold colours & a registration system of slightly overlapping each colour plate of the print intrigued me. This is a multiplate linocut print using light fast oil based inks on 145 gsm Zerkall acid free part cotton rag paper, hand printed on a small printing press. The print is made from five linocut plates; first the blue sky, second the yellow chimney & concrete clad control room, then the light blue grey of the corrugated cladding to the turbine hall, the fourth plate is the grey shadows to the chimney, the zig-zag glazed cornices of the turbine hall, & finally to cap the roof of the turbine hall & emphasize the dock walls is a dark blue plate. N.B. The photograph of the framed print actually depicts the true colours of the print more closely. The blue sky is actually more turquoise than the scanned image on the left. Something I may need to adjust in Photoshop - when I have a spare moment! This is a limited edition print; there are only 18 prints in the edition, each print is numbered & titled with a monogram signature in pencil on the front & a full signature & year date on the back. As each print is hand inked there are slight variations in the inking process making each print unique! This print & its mount use archival & light fast materials, however it is not advisable to display this print in direct sunlight or in places of excessive humidity to ensure its longevity. The image is approximately 18 x 26 cm & the paper approximately 22 x 36 cm. The mount is conservation quality acid free, colour fast, white in colour, with a white backing board & is approximately 30 x 40 cm ready to fit a standard 30 x 40 cm frame. The photo of the framed prints are for illustration purposes only. The mounted print is posted in a protective cellophane wrapping complete with a cardboard stiffener & carefully packed in a sturdy cardboard postal box . Recyclable packaging materials are used where possible so please
