This vaulted Victorian subway, built with the help of Italian craftsmen, was opened in 1865 & linked the High Level Station to the centre of the Crystal Palace itself (neither the station or the Crystal Palace remain). The pattern of the original red & cream brickwork is reproduced in these monochrome graphic art prints. The Crystal Palace Subway was used as an air raid shelter in WW2 & was featured in the Chemical Brothers’ Setting Sun video. It’s currently closed to the public.
