1928 Georg Alexander Mathy Illustration for Larisch-Festschrift, composition by H.Berthold, Leipzig & printed at the Curwen Press for Peter Davies’s illustrated survey of post-war typography. Mathy studied architecture at the Technical University of Budapest, later painting, book art & graphics at the State School of Applied Arts in Berlin where he became a master student of the well-known book & script artist ER Weiss. From 1916 to 1919 he was a teacher at this institution at the instigation of architect Bruno Paul. in 1920 he was appointed by Walter Tiemann as head of the book & stone printing workshops at the State Academy for Graphic Arts & Book Trade in Leipzig, where he worked until 1928. Between 1929 & 1940 he lived in Greece, then again as a freelance artist in Berlin. in 1953 he took over the management of the newly founded Klingspor Museumin Offenbach am Main, which was dedicated to book art.
